Billing with Metronome
For usage-based businesses, the most dangerous gap in the quote-to-cash chain is between what sales sold and what billing charges. The Metronome integration closes it: quotes are built against your real billing catalog, and signed deals provision into Metronome without manual translation.
Catalog sync: quote what you bill
Connect Metronome with an API token, and Dealops imports your billing catalog — products, rate cards, and rates — as a pricebook to quote from.
- Same source of truth. Reps negotiate against the rates that will actually bill, not a copy maintained by hand.
- Versioned syncs. Each sync creates a new catalog version; in-flight quotes stay pinned to the version they were built on, while new quotes use the latest.
- Billing-frequency aware. Quote options like monthly, quarterly, or annual billing are constrained to what the underlying rates actually support.
Provisioning: signature to live contract
When a deal is signed, Dealops translates the quote into a Metronome contract automatically:
| Quote element | Becomes in Metronome |
|---|---|
| Committed spend (flat or ramped per period) | Contract commits |
| Negotiated rates and tiers | Rate overrides against the catalog |
| One-time fees | Scheduled charges |
| Billing cadence | The contract's billing schedule |
The customer is created in Metronome if it doesn't exist, and provisioning is idempotent — a deal provisions exactly once, no matter how the signature events arrive.
Amendments: edit, don't recreate
A mid-term expansion doesn't tear down the billing contract. Dealops applies the amendment as an edit to the live Metronome contract — added commits, new overrides, additional scheduled charges — so invoicing continues uninterrupted and billing history stays intact.
Renewals: linked contracts
A renewal provisions as a new Metronome contract linked to its predecessor, keeping the billing-side contract chain aligned with the Dealops contract chain — clean term boundaries with connected history.
Status and observability
Provisioning runs automatically on signature and reports its outcome on the deal: provisioned, amended, or failed (with the reason). Each transition emits a platform event — metronome_contract.provisioned, metronome_contract.amended — so downstream systems and alerting can react.
Deal desk stops re-keying contracts into billing, finance stops auditing for transcription drift, and the customer's first invoice matches the order form they signed.
