Commitments & minimums
Usage-based pricing needs revenue floors, and enterprise customers expect better economics for bigger commitments. Dealops supports both sides of that bargain.
Monthly and annual minimums
A minimum guarantees spend regardless of actual usage:
- Monthly minimum — a per-month floor (e.g., $10,000/month). Minimums can ramp month-by-month — $5k/month for the first quarter, $10k/month after — which pairs naturally with ramped deals.
- Annual minimum — a floor across the year, either set directly or derived from the monthly schedule.
- Percentage-of-usage minimum — a floor expressed relative to expected usage (e.g., 60% of the committed usage value), so the guarantee scales with the deal instead of being renegotiated line by line.
Your catalog controls which products count toward the minimum — usage lines typically do, while seat licenses and one-time fees typically don't — so the floor measures what it's meant to measure.
Commitment tiers
Commitment tiers tie the customer's commitment level to their pricing: commit more, unlock better economics.
| Commitment level | Annual commitment | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | up to $50,000 | Standard rates |
| Growth | $50,000 – $150,000 | Improved usage rates |
| Enterprise | $150,000+ | Best rates + premium features |
On the quote, the rep selects (or the entered commitment implies) the level, and pricing follows. In multi-period deals, each period can sit at a different level — the standard shape for a land-and-expand ramp.
Commitment tiers set deal-level economics from the total commitment. Volume tiers set a single product's unit price from its usage bands. Most usage-based catalogs use both.
Commitments over the contract's life
- Mid-term increases. Customers can raise a commitment via an expansion; the tier structure extends to the new level and the billing contract is edited in place.
- Renewal. The renewal seeds from the final committed level — including every mid-term increase — so the next term starts from reality. See Renewals.
- Billing. Commitments provision into your billing system as contract commits, with overage beyond the commitment billing at the negotiated rates. See Billing with Metronome.
Governance
Commitment levels and minimums are first-class inputs to approval rules: a quote whose minimum falls below policy, or whose commitment sits in a non-standard band, routes to the right approvers automatically.
